Principia Receives NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

Principia College was one of 154 schools across NCAA Division I, II, and III levels, the NAIA, and the NJCAA to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Principia was the lone school from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to receive the award which recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a collegiate men's basketball team. To receive the award a team must maintain a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or above. 

The 2018-19 Principia College men's basketball team was coached by Todd Zimmerman, assisted by Matt Jones, Nicole Bushong, and Parker Davidson. The roster included Nathan Brantingham, Clark Davidson, Evan Eisenauer, Trevaughn Goodman, Daniel Hoffman, Simon Karega, Zack Matters, Brennan Paulson, Micah Paulson, and Kevin Wingert. This marks the second consecutive year Principia College has received the award.

Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. All members of the NABC are expected to uphold the core values of being a Guardian of the Game by bringing attention to the positive aspects of the sport of basketball and the role coaches play in the academic and athletic lives of today's student-athletes.
