Golf Finishes 25th, Thorman Qualifies for Finals in NCAA Championships

The Webster University golf team shot a second round 314 at the NCAA III Championships at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, NC, on May 14, finishing in 25th place with a two round total of 616.  Tyler Thorman (SO, Macomb, IL/Macomb HS) shot a team low 73, one over par, qualifying him for the Championship finals for individuals.

Thorman shot a two-round total of 144 (71-73), making the cutoff for the top six individual scores for participants who are not members of the top 15 teams that qualified for the finals.  He finished tied for 12th place in the field of 210 golfers.  Thorman becomes the first Webster golfer to make the cut for the finals in the four years the team has participated.  He will play rounds on May 16-17 to vie for the NCAA III Championship.  he is eight strokes behind the leader at 136, and four strokes out of second place (140).

The team tied for its highest finish in an NCAA III Championship to date, also finishing in 25th place in 2012.  The 302 first round total for Webster was its lowest in eight NCAA III Championship rounds.  The Gorloks won the 2014 SLIAC Championship, giving the team a conference record six titles.  Thorman finished second in the SLIAC Championship, with a three-round total of 215.

Jon Hughes (FR, Gardner, KS/Gardner Edgerton HS) was second low score for Webster, shooting a 155 (75-80) for the Championship.
