2016-17 Golf Player of the Week

Spalding University's Anthony Irwin is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Player of the Week for April 12. This is the second time this season that Irwin has won the conference weekly award.

Irwin, a senior from Louisville, Ky., placed 2nd individually at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Shootout, finishing the two-round event with a 146. Irwin made his move on the second day, shooting a par 70, one of just two golfers to card a par during the event. He finished just one stroke behind the overall winner. Irwin helped the Golden Eagles to a fifth-place finish in the field of nine teams.

MICHAEL NEFF, IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY 

Michael Neff, from Iowa Wesleyan University, is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Player of the Week for April 5. Neff was busy the past week, playing in three events and helping his team to a pair of top ten finishes. The Tigers finished 2nd overall at the IW Tiger Classic and 6th overall at the Prairie Fire Classic, in addition to playing a match play event against Waldorf University.

Neff's best outing came during Iowa Wesleyan's own hosted event, the Tiger Classic. Neff shot a one under par, 71, for the one round event; finishing second individually, one stroke behind the first place finisher. Neff also tied his match play event against Waldorf and finished with 163 over two rounds at the Prairie Fire Classic. On the week Neff averaged 78.0 strokes per round.

ANTHONY IRWIN, SPALDING UNIVERSITY

Spalding University's Anthony Irwin takes the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Player of the Week honors for March 29 after a second-place finish earlier this week. Irwin finished second at the Mount St. Joseph Spring Invitational held at Aston Oaks Golf Course.

Irwin finished the two-day event with a total score of 150, including shooting a par 72 on the second day. He was just one of two players to tally a round at or below par for the event. After shooting a first round 78, Irwin put together the best score on day two and finished seven strokes off the overall leader.

JACOB HIERLMEIER, MacMURRAY COLLEGE

Jacob Hierlmeier is this week's SLIAC Golf Player of the Week. Hierlmeier, a sophomore from Glenwood City, Wisc., helped lead the Highlanders to a first place team finish in the Blackburn Invitational that featured two other conference programs. Hierlmeier shot a one round score of 75, two strokes better than the closest competitor. His score of 75 placed him three above par on the 6800-yard course and he has lowered his round score in each of his last three rounds.

KYLE KESINGER, BLACKBURN COLLEGE

Kyle Kesinger from Blackburn College is the SLIAC Golf Player of the Week for September 14, 2016. Kesinger, a junior from Carrollton, Ill., opened his 2016 fall season with a first place finish in the Greenville Quad Meet. Playing against a field that included players from two other conference schools, Kesinger shot a round of 74 in the one-day event. He finished four over par on the course at Indian Springs Golf Course, edging out his nearest competitor by two strokes. With Kesinger leading the way the Beavers took home the team title as well, shooting a team score of 308.

ZAC CIESLA, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY

Webster University's Zac Ciesla is the SLIAC Golf Player of the Week for the first week of the fall season. Ciesla, a freshman from Lake Charles, La., helped the Gorloks to a second-place team finish in the Edgewood Classic. Taking the course for the first time in 2016 the freshman bested a field of 91 golfers, shooting a two-day score of 140. Ciesla jumped out to the front with an opening round of 69 and wound up shooting two-under par for the tournament to capture the individual title.
