Gorloks Open Year With Win

Gorloks Open Year With Win

The Webster University golf team had a tremendous start to the 2017-18 year with an impressive win at the Culver's Edgewood Fall Classic, on September 2 in Janesville, WI.  The Gorloks shot a 293 in the second round to wrap up first place as Will Hocker shot a 69 to finish first in the field of 108 golfers.

Webster finished the first round in a tie for first place but maintained a lead throughout the second round, at one time pulling ahead of the field of 20 teams by six strokes.  The 293 round was the lowest since the Gorloks shot a record 289 at the SLIAC Championships on April 24, 2013.

Hocker (SO, Grapevine, TX/Grapevine), a transfer from the University of Oklahoma, made a stellar debut with the Gorloks as he came from four back in round one to finish with a one stroke victory at 144.

Hocker slipped by teammate Zac Ciesla (SO, Lake Charles/Alfred M Barbe), who led the field with a 71 for the first round.  Ciesla wound up third at 146 after shooting a second round 75.

Brian Morris (JR, Shorewood, WI/Shorewood), also making his debut for the Gorloks after transferring from Carthage College (WI) wound up fourth at 147.  Will Murphy (JR, Staunton, IL/Mt. Olive) also cracked the top 10, shooting a 149 for the tournament.

The Gorloks will next be in action at the Rhodes Collegiate Fall Classic, on September 17 in Memphis, TN.  The full results for Webster are below.  The full results for the tournament can be found HERE.
