Hocker Sets Webster Record In First Place Finish

The Webster University men's golf team finished a great weekend at the Rhodes Collegiate Invitational, shooting a third round 299 to finish at 899 for the tournament...good enough for seventh place in the field of 19 teams.  Will Hocker was co-medalist for the event, shooting a third round 70 and tying for first place, while setting two more records, including a conference one, in the process.

The Gorloks shot under 300 all three rounds for just the third time in team history, the first two times taking place at the 2012 and 2014 SLIAC Championships.  Webster was 34 strokes off the pace in the competitive field at the Tunica (MS) National, par 72, 7125-yard course.  The Gorloks have now averaged 296.4 strokes for five rounds played this fall.

Hocker (SO, Grapevine, TX/Grapevine), who already set the Webster record for a single round with his 66 in round two, set the school record for a three-round tournament with his 206 at Rhodes, besting the previous low of 212 set by Kyler Scott in 2012.  In addition, Hocker shattered the SLIAC record for a three-round score, besting the 211 shot by Anthony Irwin of Spalding in 2013.  Hocker finished a whopping 10 under par for the event and is -12 for his last four rounds of play.

Brian Morris (JR, Shorewood, WI/Shorewood) finished second for Webster at 224 after shooting a third-round 74.  He was tied for 42nd in the field.  Webster will head to the Gordon Collegiate Classic, another 36-hole event, in Delaware, OH, on October 1 after taking a week off.  The full results for the Rhodes Invitational can be found HERE.  Full Webster results are below.
