Welch Named Spalding Head Men's Golf Coach

Spalding University Director of Athletics, Roger Burkman, announced Skip Welch as the Head Men's Golf Coach.

Coach Welch commented, "I am looking forward to rebuilding Spalding men's golf back into a nationally ranked team. I really think we can get back there fairly quick with the deep talent in Louisville and surrounding areas."

Welch comes to Spalding with a wealth of experience in golf, as well as collegiate athletics. Prior to taking the helm at SU, Welch spent 14 years at Bellarmine University, a NCAA Division II institution in Louisville, Ky. During his 14 years at Bellarmine, Welch coach women's golf for seven years winning nine tournaments before taking over the men's team helping guide the Knights to the 2004 NCAA Division II Super Regional Championship. In 2006, Welch moved from coaching into administration, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletics at Bellarmine until he retired in 2011. Prior to his time at Bellarmine, Welch was the golf pro at Bobby Nichols Golf Course for 22 years.

Welch is a graduate of Morehead State, where he captained the Eagles to the 1973 Ohio Valley Conference championship. Welch is a Louisville native and a graduate of St. Xavier High School.
