Webster Receiving Votes In Golf Coaches Poll

Webster University received 10 votes in this week's first Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches' Poll that is compiled by the Golf Coaches Association of America and was released Friday. 

In this week's first regular season, the Gorloks were tied for 13th among the 30 teams earning votes in the poll as they received 13 votes and were tied with both Trinity (Texas) and Whitworth, who each also received 10 votes in the poll.

Webster, who concludes its fall season this coming Sunday and Monday at the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic hosted by DePauw University and held at Deer Creek Golf Club in Clayton, Ind., has competed in three tournaments this fall as they won the tournament title at the weather-shortened Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic. placed second at the Frank Wigglesworth Blugold Invitational and were 11th out of 20 teams at this past week's Rhodes College Fall Classic.

In this week's poll, Emory sits atop the rankings at No. 1 as they earned 10 first place votes and 437 points. Defending Division III National Champion Methodist stands second after earning eight first-place votes and 426 points and Huntingdon, who took home the team title at the Rhodes College Fall Classic, is third as they earned 395 points. The other two teams in the Top 5 are Wittenberg at No. 4 and Illinois Wesleyan and Washington & Lee are tied for fifth.

Guilford is seventh as they earned 314 points, while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps is eighth with 309 points, Hope is ninth with 248 points and Rhodes College rounds out the Top 10 as they earned 245 points. 

The next 10 of the poll begins with Carnegie Mellon (219 points) at No. 11 and they are followed by Southwestern (Texas) (190 points) at No. 12 and Saint Thomas (Minn.) (177 points) at No. 13. Concordia (Texas) (157 points) is 14th and is followed at No. 15 by Greensboro (151 points) and California Lutheran (142 points) at No. 16. Saint John's (Minn.) (134 points) is 17th, while Oglethorpe (128 points) is 18th, LaGrange (118 points) is 19th and Transylvania (114 points) rounds out the Top 20 at No. 20. 

Otterbein (100 points) is 21st and is followed by Berry (Ga.) (86 points) at No. 22 and La Verne (77 points) at No. 23. Sewanee (72 points) and North Carolina Wesleyan (67 points) round out the poll at Nos. 24 and 25 respectively.
