Morris and Murphy Named All-America Scholars

For the fourth time in the last five years, the Webster University men's golf program had two of its student-athletes named NCAA Division III Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) here Tuesday evening at the GCAA Awards Banquet following the opening round of the NCAA Division III National Championships held at Keene Trace Golf Club.

For the second straight year, the GCAA honored seniors Brian Morris (Shorewood, Wis./Carthage College) and Will Murphy (Staunton, Ill./Mount Olive) as those two Gorloks were also honored by the GCAA last season.

A total of 64 players in NCAA Division III earned Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar honors for the 2018-19 season on Tuesday evening. Morris and Murphy were the only student-athletes selected from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Morris, who was named a First-Team All-SLIAC selection last season, posted a 76.58 scoring average in 12 rounds and six events. His scoring average is fourth best on the team.

In his 12 rounds of golf, Morris has had three Top 10 finishes, including taking home medalist honors at the season-opening Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic and had one round of par on the year. Morris' collegiate career ended after the first round of the Rhodes Spring Classic due to a back injury that had bothered Morris most of the season.

Murphy, who was named a Second-Team All-SLIAC selection for the second consecutive season in 2019, has posted a 78.35 scoring average in 20 rounds and nine events entering the NCAA Division III National Championships.

In his 20 rounds of golf, Murphy had had two Top 10 finishes, including an eighth-place finish at the SLIAC Championships and has had two rounds of par or better golf on the year.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
