Four SLIAC Soccer Teams Receive NSCAA Team Academic Award

ST. LOUIS - Four soccer teams from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) have been awarded with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.

On the men's side, both Principia College and Webster University received the award. Principia, under head coach Vitalis Otieno, posted a team grade point average of 3.16. It was the fifth straight year and eighth overall that Principia has received the Team Academic Award. Webster, under head coach Marty Todt, recorded a 3.19 gpa. The Gorloks have received the award four times, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012.

On the women's side, both Fontbonne University and Webster earned the honor. Fontbonne, under head coach Brian Hoener, had a 3.38 gpa. It marked the first time that the Griffins have earned the award. Webster had a 3.37 team gpa under head coach Luigi Scire. The Gorloks have received the award for 12 consecutive years since 2001.

Webster was one of 148 schools at all levels to have both their men's and women's programs recognized.

To qualify for the award, teams must post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. A total of 717 college soccer teams (220 men, 497 women) from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and other affiliations earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.
