Webster's Wallner Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Webster University's Jeff Wallner (Eureka, MO / Eureka) has been named to the Academic All-District first team for men's soccer. His name will be placed on the national ballot for the Academic All-America team to be announced in late November.
 
The junior defender has been a starter for the Gorloks who are 12-1-3 against NCAA Division III competition this season, and are tied for first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 7-1 conference record.
 
Heading into the team's regular-season finale, Wallner has two goals and three assists. He has been part of a team defense that has registered eight shutouts this season.
 
Wallner is pursuing a double major in mathematics and education. He has a 3.97 cumulative grade point average, including perfect 4.0 the last two semesters. He has twice been named to the SLIAC all-academic team.
 
Wallner is the first Webster student-athlete to receive this honor since tennis player Ryan Fassler in May 2011. Wallner is vying to become the school's first Academic All-American since women's soccer player Christy Capkovic in November 2010.
 
The Academic All-America program is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America and sponsored by Capital One. Separate district teams are chosen for NCAA Divisions I, II and III plus non-NCAA schools.
 
Webster student-athletes are eligible for the NCAA Division III district team. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a starter or key reserve in their sport.
 
In Webster's district, nominations are accepted from schools in 10 states -- Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia -- plus Puerto Rico.
