Webster's Wallner Named Academic All-American
Webster University's Jeff Wallner (Eureka, Mo. / Eureka) has
been named to the Academic All-America ® third team for men's
soccer in NCAA Division III.
He is the third Gorlok ever chosen for the Academic All-America
® team. Wallner previously was selected to the Academic
All-District first team.
Wallner, a junior defender, was a starter for the Gorloks who
finished 14-2-3 against NCAA Division III competition this season.
The team also finished in a tie for first place in the conference
regular-season standings with a 8-1 record in the St. Louis
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Wallner tied for fifth on the team in scoring with nine points on
three goals and three assists. He was part of a team defense that
registered nine shutouts and had the lowest goals against average
in the conference.
Wallner is pursuing a double major in mathematics and education.
He had a 3.97 cumulative grade point average, including perfect 4.0
the last two semesters. He has twice been named to the SLIAC
all-academic team.
Previous Academic All-America ® honorees from Webster are
women's soccer player Christy Capkovic, a third-team selection in
2010, and baseball player Eric Stack, a second-team selection in
1991.
The AAA program is sponsored by Capital One and administered by
the College Sports Information Directors of America. A national
panel of sports information directors selected the AAA teams.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore
with a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a starter or key reserve in their
sport. A total of 408 schools fielded men's soccer teams in
Division III and were eligible to submit nominees for the AAA
program.
