Webster's Wallner Named Academic All-American

Webster's Wallner Named Academic All-American

Webster University's Jeff Wallner (Eureka, Mo. / Eureka) has been named to the Academic All-America ® third team for men's soccer in NCAA Division III.

He is the third Gorlok ever chosen for the Academic All-America ® team. Wallner previously was selected to the Academic All-District first team.

Wallner, a junior defender, was a starter for the Gorloks who finished 14-2-3 against NCAA Division III competition this season. The team also finished in a tie for first place in the conference regular-season standings with a 8-1 record in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Wallner tied for fifth on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists. He was part of a team defense that registered nine shutouts and had the lowest goals against average in the conference.

Wallner is pursuing a double major in mathematics and education. He had a 3.97 cumulative grade point average, including perfect 4.0 the last two semesters. He has twice been named to the SLIAC all-academic team.

Previous Academic All-America ® honorees from Webster are women's soccer player Christy Capkovic, a third-team selection in 2010, and baseball player Eric Stack, a second-team selection in 1991.

The AAA program is sponsored by Capital One and administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America. A national panel of sports information directors selected the AAA teams.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative GPA and a starter or key reserve in their sport. A total of 408 schools fielded men's soccer teams in Division III and were eligible to submit nominees for the AAA program.
