Fontbonne Edges Blackburn In Game of the Week

The Fontbonne University men's soccer team extended their winning streak to four games in a 2-1 come from behind win over Blackburn College in a game that was featured as the SLIAC Game of the Week. Fontbonne has the second longest active winning streak in the conference and with their win are now tied for the most conference wins in the league this year with five.

The host Beavers of Blackburn struck first when Lane DePratt tallied his team leading fifth goal of the season. Nate Kinnison assisted on the goal which came just two-minutes into the game. The two teams felt each other out despite the goal differential, with just six combined shots by the two teams in the first 14-minutes of play.

Fontbonne eventually got the equalizer at the 38-minute mark when Nick Wolf buried a penalty shot. The game remained unchanged until late in the game when Alex Phillips netted his third goal of the season on a pass from Wolf in the 77th minute. The game was a physical one that saw a combined 40 fouls while Fontbonne held a 22-9 advantage in shots.

Tony Pitaro picked up the win in net for the Griffins, making four saves while Kendl Gulick made eight stops in the loss. Fontbonne is now 5-9-1 overall and 5-1 in the SLIAC while Blackburn is 5-6-3 overall and 2-2-1 in conference action.
