Blue Ja\ys Fall To Wisconsin-Platteville

Westminster men's soccer dropped a 5-0 decision against Wisconsin-Platteville to end its season in the NCAA Tournament.

The Blue Jays finish their season 8-10-2 with the loss. 

"We picked a bad day for a bad game, but we give credit to Wisconsin-Platteville for the win," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "They are an excellent side and their speed of play and athleticism were excellent."

The Pioneers began the scoring in the third minute to go up 1-0 early in the match. Their second goal of the half came in the 15th minute. 

After 45 minutes of play, Westminster went into the second half down just 2-0, hoping to get on the board in the second half and keeping their second-round hopes alive.

Wisconsin-Platteville continued their strong offensive effort with three more goals in the second half between the 53rd and 67th minutes. 

Despite tallying 12 shots, Westminster was unable to score a goal during the game to end the match with a 5-0 loss. 

Austin Chandler led the way offensively with four shots. 

Raul Belman and Connor Bandre' split time between the posts for the Blue Jays. Bandre' made all seven saves for Westminster in his 67 minutes of play. 

Westminster concludes the 2017 season after winning its fifth consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. 

"We overcame a lot of adversity this season and I'm proud of the fight our guys showed," said Galla. "Winning our fifth straight conference tournament is a huge accomplishment. Our senior class did a great job and our younger guys really developed throughout the season."
