Gorloks Up To 7th In Latest Region Poll

Webster University's men's soccer team jumped two spots to No. 7 in this week's second Central Region Poll compiled by the United Soccer Coaches and released on Tuesday afternoon.

The Gorloks, who hosts Millikin University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo., are one of three teams ranked in the second Central Region poll that have yet to lose or tie a match this season.

Webster, who is sporting a 7-0-0 record and is off the best start in school history, is not only undefeated this season, but the Gorloks have yet to allow any of their first seven opponents to score a goal as they have posted seven straight shutouts and are also riding a school record 18 game non-losing skid as the Gorloks haven't lost a match since falling 5-2 at Illinois Wesleyan on Sept. 26, 2017. During this 18 game stretch, Webster, who is one of three NCAA Division III men's soccer programs that have yet to allow a goal this season, has posted a 15-0-3 overall record.

The Gorloks jumped two spots to No. 7 in this week's poll after picking up three victories last week. They opened the week with a 4-0 home win last Tuesday against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, before earning a 2-0 win last Friday at Rhodes and a 4-0 win on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn., against Hendrix College.

In this week's Central Region rankings, the Top 4 teams remain the same as the University of Chicago (6-0-1) headlines the poll and is followed by Calvin (Mich.) College (5-0-0) at No. 2, North Park (3-1-0) is third and Hope (Mich.) College (4-0-0) is fourth. In fact, those four teams are ranked No. 2, No. 5, No. 14 and No. 23 respectively in this week's second United Soccer Coaches Division III Top 25 Poll.

Wheaton (Ill.) College (3-1-1) jumps one spot to No. 5, while Illinois Wesleyan (5-1-0) leaps four spots to No. 6 and following Webster in the poll at No. 8 is Carthage College (3-3-0), Albion (Mich.) College (4-1-2) at No. 9 and North Central (3-2-0) rounds out the poll at No. 10.

Webster is one of three St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer programs receiving mention in this week's second Central Region poll as Greenville (5-1-0) and Spalding (6-1-0) were among the six schools that received votes this week.

Following its home match on Wednesday with Millikin University, the Gorloks will return to the road for a 1 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 22 in Watertown, Wis., against Maranatha Baptist University.
