Top Seeds Advance in Men's Soccer Tournament

For the first time since 2016 the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Championship game will feature the top two seeds in the tournament. #1 seed Principia College will host #2 seed Spalding University on Friday night in Elsah, Illinois for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

Spalding 1, Greenville 0 - BOX SCORE
 Spalding avenged one of their two conference losses during the regular season with a win against Greenville University a semifinal game of the SLIAC Tournament. The first-half didn't see much action, with just nine combined shots. Alioune Cisse provided all the action the Golden Eagles would need in the second-half though when he netted his 6th goal of the season at the 69-minute mark on a header off a pass from Chadrack Mulondani. With the one-goal lead, the Golden Eagles had to fight off the Panthers threat, which saw the visitors get off 11 second-half shots. Trevor Massa stood tall in net for Spalding, stopping all eight shots on goal for the shutout win.

  • Spalding will be playing in their second SLIAC Championship game in program history (2016) and looking for their first championship.

Principia 2, Westminster 1 - BOX SCORE
 Playing just four days after their regular-season finale against each other Wednesday's first-round game between the two in the SLIAC Tournament had a familiar result. Just as in their previous meeting, Westminster took a first-half lead but once again the Panthers responded with two unanswered goals and came away with a 2-1 win. Justin Gerdiman put the Blue Jays on the board just 20-minutes into the game when he slipped behind the defense and buried a shot to the far side of the net. That lead was erased 17-minutes later when Kaleb Keller broke in alone against the Blue Jay keeper and was fouled in the box, setting up a penalty kick. Keller stepped to the line and buried the shot to draw the score even. He added the game-winning goal early in the second half, scoring just three minutes into the period. 

  • Keller's first goal of the game was the 48th of his career, setting a new Principia program career mark.
  • Principia has won two previous SLIAC Tournaments (1990 and 2007).
