Principia, Webster Grab Top Honors in SLIAC Men's Tennis Awards

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the 2013 All-Conference Men's Tennis Team and special award winners. Principia College's Jason Wissman was tabbed the SLIAC Player of the Year, while teammate Joey Sander shared Newcomer of the Year honors with Webster University's Travis Blair. Webster head coach Mike Siener was also named the 2013 SLIAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.

Wissman, who was last year's Newcomer of the Year, earned First Team All-SLIAC at #1 Singles to go along with his Player of the Year award. He went undefeated in SLIAC play at 4-0 and had a 9-3 overall record at that spot. Wissman and Sander also earned Honorable Mention All-SLIAC at #1 Doubles after going 3-2 in conference play and 10-6 overall.

Sander is the fourth Principia player to earn Newcomer of the Year honors. He also was named First Team All-SLIAC at #2 Singles and went 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the SLIAC this season.

Blair is only the second Webster men's tennis player to earn Newcomer of the Year. He posted a 3-1 record in conference play and went 7-1 overall at #4 Singles. Blair was also named Honorable Mention All-SLIAC at #4 Singles.

This marks the first time that Siener has earned SLIAC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year honors. He has also received the award a total of three times as the Gorloks' women's tennis coach. Siener led the Gorlok men to an undefeated season, 5-0, in the SLIAC this season. They were also the top seed in the 2013 SLIAC Men's Tennis Tournament and finished in second place.

Eureka College received the Sportsmanship Award for the second time since the awards inception in 2006. The team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship.
