Wissman, Wieland, Reynolds Take Top Conference Honors
Principia's Jason Wissman was named the 2015 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Year while Principia head coach Casey Reynolds was named Coach of the Year. In addition Greenville's Nate Wieland was named the 2015 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year.
Jason Wissman, a senior from Westlake, Ohio, served as the Panthers #1 player this season and compiled an 8-11 overall record. Wissman added 8 more wins as a member of the Panthers #2 doubles team, closing the season out with five straight wins. With Wissman leading the way the Panthers claimed the 2015 SLIAC tournament championship for the second straight year. This is the third straight year that Wissman has been named the SLIAC Player of the Year, an honor achieved by only one other player in conference history (Michael LeVan of Principia from 2004-06).
Nate Wieland, a freshman from Mascoutah, Ill., becomes the first player in Greenville program history to be named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. Wieland compiled a 14-4 record this season during singles play, splitting time between the #1 and #2 positions. He added 13 more wins in doubles action to give him 27 wins on the season.
Casey Reynolds guided Principia to their second straight SLIAC Tournament title. This is is second straight Coach of the Year award and third overall after also winning in 2012. Principia went undefeated in SLIAC play this season and finished the season 8-9 overall.
Principia College was also awarded the 2015 SLIAC Men's Tennis Team Sportsmanship Award. This award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals of sportsmanship.
