Greenville Rededicates Scott Burgess Memorial Tennis Courts

On October 16 as part of homecoming festivities, Greenville College rededicated the Scott Burgess Memorial Tennis Courts. With the completion of the project Greenville now has six full courts for use in not only intercollegiate athletics but will also serve as a site for local high school competition and the Greenville community.

The rededication was made possible through assistance from Jay and Shay Burgess and John and Marsha Hammond. The tennis courts are named after Scott Burgess, Jay and Shay's son, who passed away tragically in 1972 after a collision on the basketball court during practice. The tennis courts were named in Scott's honor in 1975, with additional courts being added in 1994. With help from Mr. Hammond, Scott's freshman roommate at Greenville, the school was able to complete the tennis court project and install a plaque commemorating the 40th aniversary of the courts.

Greenville College, located in Greenville, Ill., is an NCAA Division III institution and member of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
