Gomez, Blume, Jones Top Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards
Daniel Gomez, Tyler Blume, and Rusty Jones are the top individual award winners for the 2019 SLIAC Men's Tennis season.
Gomez, a junior from Bogota, Columbia, was named the SLIAC Player of the Year after pacing Principia College to the 2019 conference title. Playing at #1 singles Gomez went 18-2 overall this season and was undefeated in conference play. He also added 11 more wins at doubles, playing mainly on the #3 team for the Panthers. He is the 8th different Panther to win the league's top individual award.
Tyler Blume, a freshman from Spring Arbor, Mich., takes home the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year award. The freshman was 10-3 overall this year, accumulating eight of his wins at #5 singles. He finished 3-1 against conference foes during his first collegiate season. Blume joins Nate Wieland as the only Greenville players in program history to receive the award.
Rusty Jones was named the Coach of the Year after leading Principia to a 14-8 overall record and going undefeated in the SLIAC through both the regular season and tournament. The Panthers won the SLIAC Tournament for the 6th consecutive season this spring while this is Jones' 3rd straight Coach of the Year award.
In addition, Fontbonne University was recognized for their sportsmanship, receiving the 2019 SLIAC Team Sportsmanship award.
