Greenville Freshman Bruce Gray Places 6th at NCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- A 21.32 second sprint by freshman Bruce Gray earned him sixth place and an All-American award as the Panthers used his performance to gain three points and place 58th at the NCAA Division III national championships.

The Panther contingency included Gray who participated in the 100-meter dash, 200, and 4x100 meter relay as well as three men in Anthony Ambers, Josh Garcia, and Brian White who made up the balance of the relay squad.

Gray posted a time of 10.59 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash which was the second best time in his heat. In qualifying sixth for the finals, Gray's time of 10.607 seconds in the championships earned him ninth place, missing All-American stature by one-one hundredth of a second.

Gray's most success came in the 200-meter dash as he used a time of 21.11 seconds to win his preliminary heat and advance to the finals as the third seed. In the finals, Gray completed the run in 21.32 seconds, earning sixth place and his All-American honor.

The 4x100 meter relay team ran 41.42 seconds in the prelimaries but were unable to advance to the finals. Their time was 11th best in the preliminaries and fourth in their heat.

The appearance by the Panthers in the NCAA championships concluded a season that saw them also place third at the NCCAA national championships.
