Davis Heads Up SLIAC Competitors At NCAA Championship

Greenville College's Jeremiah Davis headed up the group of St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competitors at the 2017 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship. Davis finished 2nd overall in the 200-meter dash, earning All-America honors. A freshman from Chicago, Ill., had the top qualifying time in the event and then lowered his time in the final heat to 21.06 seconds. Davis also placed 9th in the 100-meter dash at the championship.

Andrew Sharp also picked up points and All-America honors for Greenville. Sharp, a junior from Altamont, Ill., took 7th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.23; finishing under a second behind the first-place winner. This marks the third time in his career he has earned All-America honors.

Jarrid Williams finished 12th in the triple jump for Greenville, with a distance of 22'7.75". 

Also competing for Greenville was Chelsea Gilles, the lone SLIAC female competitor. Gilles, a senior from Groveland, Ill., placed 5th in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.03; earning All-America honors for the third time in her career.

Principia College was also represented at the championships by Zach Matthiesen and Shane Witters-Hicks. Matthiesen finished 16th in his heat for the 1500-meter run; finishing in 3:55.42 and failing to advance to the finals.

Shane Witters-Hicks took 7th in the 3,000-meter Steeple Chase. After putting together the top qualifying time, Witters-Hicks ran a 9:16.02 in the finals to earn All-America honors. 

The Greenville College men's team finished 27th in the team standings, while the women's team placed 56th. The Principia College men totaled enough points for a 76th place finish.
