2018 Men's Track and Field Players of the Week

 

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 24

Greg Mitchell, Greenville University

Mitchell, a sophomore from Little Rock, Ark., tallied three top-three finishes at the Rose Hulman Twilight. He took first place in both the high jump (6'2.75") and the long jump (21'5") and added a second place finish in the triple jump (44'4.75").

John Mangold, Greenville University

Mangold, a junior from Metamora, Ill., took first place in the 3000-meter run at the Rose Hulman Twilight last weekend. His time of 8:29.47 was a school record, breaking the previous mark by three seconds, and a stadium record, breaking that mark by 12-seconds. 

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 16

Austin Wagner, Webster University

Wagner, a freshman from Cortez, Colo., notched six team points for Webster while competing at the Greenville Select Meet last weekend. Wagner had a 5th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 43'5". He also had a season-best jump of 21'0.5" in the long jump, putting him 6th among SLIAC competitors this spring.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 16

Corey Carter, Principia College

Corey Carter continues to dominate the short race scene with two more first-place finishes over the weekend. Carter, a freshman from Cincinnati, Ohio, took first in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Greenville Select Meet. His time of 21.51 seconds in the 200 meter broke a school record that had stood for 60 years. The time was also the 5th fastest in NCAA Division III this season. He also put up the best time in the 100 meter dash in the conference this year, finishing in 10.76 seconds; good for 15th in the nation.

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Ben Perry, Greenville University

Perry, a senior from Edwardsville, Ill., helped the Panthers to a team win in the Millikin Big Blue Invitational with a pair of top-two finishes. Perry took first place in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 160'0", setting a new personal best. He also took second-place in the discus with a distance of 126'10", the second-best throw this season in the SLIAC.

 

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - APRIL 9

Nathan Potts, Greenville University

Potts picks up his second straight weekly honor after capturing another event title at the Millikin Invitational. Potts took first in the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:06.95. Potts also notched a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay, finishing with a time of 3:30.

Mason Stevens, Webster University

Mason Stevens had a busy Saturday for the Gorloks competing in the John Creer Invitational. Stevens, a senior from Oakdale, Calif., competed in three events on the weekend and walked away with two top-three finishes. He took 3rd place in the javelin with a distance of 148'4", the second-best throw among SLIAC competitors this year. Stevens also teamed up for a 2nd place finish in the 4x400 meter relay and added a 6th place finish in the pole vault.

Nathan Potts, Greenville University

Potts, a senior from St. Charles, Mo., ran his way to 1st finish in the 800-meter race at the WashU Invite and added a 4th place finish in the 4x400 relay. Potts took first with a time of 1:53.98, the best time from the SLIAC this spring, and a career best. The Panthers time of 3:24.36 in the relay race was the team's best this year by four-seconds and the second-fastest time in the conference this season.

SLIAC MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - MARCH 26
Dimitrije Mitic, Webster University

Mitic, a junior from Belgrade, Serbia, takes the SLIAC Field Athlete of the Week award after his showing at the WashU Mini Meet. Mitic had a 3rd place finish in the javelin, throwing a distance of 141'06", the second longest throw in the conference this season. He also competed in the shot put for the Gorloks, finishing with a distance of 32'11.25".

SLIAC MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - MARCH 26  
Corey Carter, Principia College

Carter debuted for the Panthers track and field team with a pair of first-place finishes during the team's trip to Alabama for The Island Meet. Carter took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.97 seconds and added another top finish in the 200-meter race with a time of 21.75 seconds. Both times are the fastest among SLIAC runners this spring so far and his 200-meter time puts him fourth nationally.
