The Greenville University pulled off back to back titles by winning the 2018 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Championship. Greenville rolled to their second straight title after compiling 245 points this weekend behind eight gold medal wins.
Greenville got off to a quick start on Friday night with gold medals in the discus (Mitchell Hooten) and triple jump (Greg Mitchell). Mitchell added a second gold in the high jump, with a height of 6'49". The Panthers were strong, quite literally, in the throwing events as they added gold medals in the hammer throw, javelin, and shot put to go along with their earlier first-place showing in the discus. Ben Perry grabbed the gold in the hammer, while LC Washington finished third. Matt Hughes won gold in the javelin, and the Panther swept honors in the shot put. Washington took first overall and was followed by Hooten and Maurice Radtke. Dylan Goodyear took first in the steeplechase with a time of 9:38.99 while Andrew Sharp won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.88.
Webster University placed second overall with 194 points. The Gorloks placed first in six events including placing two on the podium in four events. The Gorloks took one-two in the 400-meter hurdles thanks to efforts from Damon Fowler and Corbin White. They added silver and bronze finishes in the javelin and 400-meter dash as well as the steeplechase. Mason Stevens grabbed gold in the pole vault while Riley Flynn added gold in the 5000-meter race. The Gorloks picked up a pair of golds in the relay races with the team of Jacob Ridenhour, Brandyn Robinson, Carson Gross, and Caleb Clemons winning the 4x100 race and the team of Jordan Kaden, Mason Stevens, Luis Mendoza, and Brandyn Robinson winning the 4x400 race. Joseph Souvannarath finished first in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.85 seconds.
Principia College shined on the track to total 79 points and finish in third place. The star for Principia was Corey Carter who continued his season-long stronghold on the short track this weekend. Carter took golds in both the 100-meter dash (10.64 seconds) and 200-meter dash (21.58 seconds). Jon Ansumana placed first int he 400-meter dash with a time of 50.26 and added a second gold in the long jump. Not to be outdone Zach Matthisen won the 1500 meter race.
Spalding University took fourth place with 60 points. The Golden Eagles were led by Brandon Price's first-place finish in the 10,000-meter race, finishing with a time of 33:53.00 seconds. Price also picked up a silver medal in the 5000-meter race. Cameron Mitchell grabbed second in the hammer throw while teammate Jeff Cassidy took third in the discus.
Eureka College finished fifth overall with 34 points. Brett Charlton finished with a pair of silvers, placing second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, and a bronze in the long jump. Austin Wagner finished third in the triple jump to pick up a fourth medal for the Red Devils.
Westminster College was sixth with three points. The relay team of Akeen Modica-Robinson, Kole Rackers, Andrew Buckner, and Kidd Sutherlin picked up points for the Blue Jays in both the 4x100 and 4x400 events.
Fontbonne University finished seventh overall with one point with their point coming from the relay team of Quinn Wilson, Hayden Yates, Juwan Lee, and Jacob Dixon in the 4x400 race.
