Mangold Takes First While Qualifying For Nationals

The men's track and field team competed at their final qualifying meet of the 2018 season at North Central. Greenville had 10 entries and was headlined by John Mangold's first-place performance in the 1500 meter run.

Mangold's time of 3:51.30 broke Justin Snider's 2001 record by over two seconds as he secured a spot in the NCAA Division III national championships.

Despite holding the nation's best time in the 800 and going to the NCAA nationals for the fourth time, Andrew Sharp tried to improve his time in the 400 meter dash, and he finished in 49.48 seconds to place fourth.

Greg Mitchell will compete in the high jump at the NCAA nationals. He was fifth at North Central in the high jump with a clearance of 1.96 meters (6 feet-5 inches) and goes into the NCAA Division III national championships after clearing 2.07 meters (6-9.5) at the NCCAA outdoor national championships last week.

Dylan Goodyear broke his own school record by five seconds in the 3000-meter steeplechase as he recorded an eighth-place time of 9:22.07.

The NCAA is projected to take Sharp (800-meter run), Mangold (1500 meter run), and Mitchell (high jump) to the national championships next week. Nathan Potts is on the bubble in the 800 meter run with the nation's 22nd best time.
