Webster Cross Country/Track & Field Adds Three New Coaches

St. Louis, Mo. - The Webster University men's and women's cross-coutnry/track and field program is adding three new assistant coaches for the 2010-2011 academic year. Brian McQueary, Dr. Arik Poremba, and Heather Kelley will be joining head coach Dusty Lopez' staff. Exiting the program is Zach Haupt, who has accepted an assistant position at the University of Central Arkansas, after two years with Webster.

Zach Haupt worked with sprinters and jumpers for track and field's inaugural two seasons. He was a horizontal jumper and sprinter as an undergraduate at McKendree University (IL). Before coming to Webster, Haupt had extensive experience coaching in high schools and youth camps in the Metro East area. At Central Arkansas, he will work with jumpers as part of his full-time position.

In regards to Haupt, coach Dusty Lopez says, "We'll miss Zach's energy and good humor at practice. He's a very knowledgeable, committed coach and UCA is lucky to have him. We wish Zach and his family all the best as they relocate south. A replacement for Haupt is currently being sought. Applicants are being considered and a replacement is hoped to be named by the mid-October.

Meet the newest coaches for the Gorloks:

Brian McQueary is a former NCAA Division II student/athlete, McQueary will work primarily with the cross country team and distance runners in track. McQueary arrives at Webster after spending two years as a head coach for girls cross country, and assistant coach in track, at Mehlville HS in St. Louis. McQueary has coached at several high schools during his career.

At Lincoln College Prep in Kansas City, he was the head cross country coach and assistant track coach. While there, he was voted the 2005 Interscholastic League Cross Country Coach of the Year. McQueary also served at Parkway Central HS as an assistant track coach. He was a graduate assistant with the cross country and track programs at Truman State University from 2003 to 2004.

As an undergraduate at Truman, McQueary was a four-year letter winner in cross country and twice in track, earning All Conference honors in cross country and track. He claimed the 2002 conference title in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and finished that season with All-America honors in the same event.
While at Truman, he earned a BA in English Literature and a master's in education. He holds level II distance certification from USATF. McQueary is a resident of Affton.

Dr. Arik Poremba, PT, DPT, CKTP, has extensive experience treating patients with orthopedic and sports injuries. His clients include athletes from the NBA, European Basketball League and USA Track and Field. He specializes in manual therapy including myofascial release and trigger point therapy to reduce muscle tension; joint mobilization techniques to correct body alignment; sport-specific conditioning; and, core stability and strengthening to enhance muscular balance and correct posture.

His experience as a long-distance runner and endurance athlete enables him to assist individuals to maximize their performance levels. He is the physical therapy doctor for Webster University's track and field team where he oversees injury prevention and treatment as well as the strength and conditioning program.

Dr. Poremba earned a Bachelors and Master's Degree in Physical Therapy at Maryville University in St. Louis and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in Boston

Heather Kelley will be joining the Gorloks as a volunteer assistant. Kelley has extensive running and road racing experience, and will help with practice planning and her commitment to running and good health. She is a native of Kirkwood.
