Return of the Mac; Cross Country Added in 2017

In the fall of 2017, MacMurray College will relaunch a men's and women's cross country program led by new Head Coach Trey Bruton.

Bruton joins the Highlanders with collegiate competing and coaching experience. He spent all four years of his undergraduate career at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, where he was a six-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Qualifier and an Academic All-American. After graduating cum laude with a degree in Mathematics from Southwestern, Bruton continued his education at Western Illinois University, where he completed his Masters of Physics and was a volunteer cross country and track coach.

"I am excited and very hopeful, as I start with the program, that we will bring lots of success to not only athletics, but to the college as a whole," said Bruton. "My coaching philosophy is to bring good student-athletes with an emphasis on the student aspect that are going to come to practice and work hard while also working hard in the classroom."

Bruton will also teach math and physics for the College as he begin recruiting for the season starting in the fall.
"I believe Trey will do a great job getting our cross country programs up and running," said MacMurray Athletic Director Justin Fuhler. "He is hardworking, smart and extremely passionate about his sport. I have no doubt that he will do a tremendous job."

Men's and Women's Cross Country returns to MacMurray after it was discontinued in the early 2000's.  A handful of participants have been inducted in the Hall of Fame from the sport, most notably Dennis Mueller and Bob Clary, who graduate in 1968 and 1980 respectively. Mueller continues to hold the record in the two-mile run, three-mile run, distance medley, and four-mile relay. Clary has the fastest 5K record at 15:16.
