USTFCCCA Honors Academic Success For 2016

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their 2016 All-Academic awards with several St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) members and individuals being honored.

A total of seven programs and three individuals were recognized for their academic success this past fall, highlighted by five of seven SLIAC Women's Cross Country programs receiving USTFCCCA Team Academic Awards including Greenville College which held the highest Team Grade Point Average in all of NCAA Division III.

Greenville College finished with a team G.P.A. of 3.84 to lead all women's programs and is coached by Brian Patton. Joining them in receiving USTFCCCA Team Academic Awards are Fontbonne University (3.59) coached by Dr. Chris Buckler, Principia College (3.44) coached by Chuck Wilcoxen, Webster University (3.53) coached by Dan Graber, and Westminster College (3.50) coached by Mark Bollinger.

In addition the Greenville College (3.36) and Principia College (3.43) Men's Cross Country programs received the USTFCCCA Team Academic Award for 2016. To see a complete list of the 2016 USTFCCCA Team Academic Award winners click HERE

Individually three student-athletes from the SLIAC also received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. Zach Matthiesen and Nate Richards from Principia College were named to Men's Cross Country All-Academic while Jessica Kuykendall from Westminster College earned Women's Cross Country All-Academic honors. In order to be named USTFCCA All-Academic, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and finish in the top-25 percent at their respective regional. For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum team GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale.
