Witters Hicks Places First Overall
Principia College senior Shane Witters Hicks paced the Panthers this past weekend at the Wisconsin Lutheran Warrior Invite, claiming first place overall. The first-place finish was Witters Hicks' 4th top-five finish this season. He set a personal best course record of 25:50, one of three Panther runners to set personal best times on the course.
Zach Matthiesen took 4th and Nate Richards took 5th by running 26:01.5 and 26:16.7 respectively. Although the course is not an ideal setting to record personal best times, sophomore Abe Ott came within one second of his with a time of 28:06.8. The final scoring position for the men went to sophomore Connor D'Amico who, for the second week in a row, out-sprinted teammate Drew Shotwell and finished in 31:32.9. Furthermore, D'Amico ran down another competitor in the homestretch and won that battle by 1/10th of a second. Sophomore Gabriel Johnston also had a solid day kicking into "turbo mode" along the home stretch and also just passed his competitor by less than 1/10th of a second. Freshman runner Jordan Bond made his collegiate cross country debut by running his 8k race with a time of 37:45.5.
