Kuykendall And Witters Hicks Take Runner of the Year Honors

After voting from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country coaches Westminster College's Jessie Kuykendall and Principia College's Shane Witters Hicks have been named the 2017 SLIAC Cross Country Runners of the Year.

This marks the first year in conference history that cross country has awarded separate awards, differentiating the SLIAC Championship Individual Champion and acknowledging the top runner from throughout the fall season.

Kuykendall, a junior, concluded her fall with her second straight SLIAC Tournament Individual Title, winning the 5k race in a time of 21:59, the fourth fastest time in conference championship history. She is just the fifth runner in conference history to win multiple titles. She also garnered four SLIAC Player of the Week awards this season.

Witters Hicks wraps up his collegiate career with the Runner of the Year award after winning four conference Player of the Week awards this past fall. Witters Hicks was the top SLIAC finisher at the NCAA Division III Nationals, placing 42nd overall with a time of 25:01. He also took 3rd place at the SLIAC Championships.
