Fontbonne Softball Selected as Pre-Season Favorites in 2011

St. Louis, Mo. – Defending St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) tournament champion Fontbonne University has been chosen as the pre-season favorite in the SLIAC Softball Pre-Season Coaches' Poll. The Griffins received six first place votes and had a total of 55 points.

Fontbonne went 24-17 in 2010 and captured their fourth SLIAC Tournament Championship overall. They finished the season 12-3 in conference play and second in the regular season standings. Head coach Bill Rosner returns First Team All-SLIAC player Amy Simon at third base, as well as Honorable Mention honoree Amanda Beaver at first base/designated player.

Also receiving one first place vote in the poll was Webster University. The Gorloks went 14-2 in SLIAC play last season and finished 24-13 overall. They also captured their fourth consecutive regular season SLIAC title. 

Spalding University was selected to finish third among the league coaches. The Golden Eagles went 16-21 overall in 2010 and 9-6 in the conference. Greenville College, who finished last season with a conference record of 9-7 and 18-18 overall, rounded out the top four in the pre-season poll.
