Fontbonne Earns #3 Seed; Heading to Pella, Iowa for NCAA Softball Regional

St. Louis- The NCAA unveiled its Division III National Softball Tournament bracket this morning and Fontbonne University earned the #3 seed in the Pella, Iowa Regional. The Griffins will play #6 seed Augustana College (Ill.) at 2:00pm Thursday, May 9, at Central College, which is hosting the regional.

Fontbonne (33-10) is making its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after earning an automatic qualifying bid to the tournament by virtue of winning the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament. It marked the fourth straight year the Griffins have won the SLIAC Tournament. Fontbonne also won the SLIAC regular season championship, posting a perfect 16-0 record in conference play.

The Griffins enter the tournament winning 23 of their last 24 games. Fontbonne needs just one more win to tie a school record for most wins in a season.

Fontbonne swept a doubleheader with Augustana back on March 16, winning 4-2 and 9-1. Fontbonne has lost its last nine NCAA Tournament games. Its last win in the NCAA Tournament came in 2005 against Coe College.
