Fontbonne Softball Ranked #1 in NFCA Team GPA

ST. LOUIS - Fontbonne University’s 2012 softball team had the highest GPA in NCAA Division III. The Griffins finished the 2011-2012 academic year ranked #1 in grade point average in the nation for NCAA Division III schools, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

“As true student-athletes, Fontbonne’s women’s softball team is the Division III academic national champion with a cumulative GPA of 3.595. This is a credit to their practice, preparation, and performance”, says Fontbonne University President Dr. Dennis C. Golden. The Griffins maintained their cumulative GPA while advancing to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Director of Athletics, Maria Eftink, acknowledges the Griffins as well. “We are delighted to see the academic success attained by all of the student-athletes on the 2012 softball team. The team has many goals on and off the field and being able to attain their most important goal (academics) prior to the season beginning is a wonderful accomplishment. The coaching staff does a great job recruiting the type of student-athletes that work hard and make the University proud. We could not be more pleased.”

Fontbonne University softball has advanced to the national tournament each of the last three years under head coach Bill Rosner and associate head coach Mike Akers. The Griffins have advanced to the tournament six times in Fontbonne softball history.
