2016 Softball Players of the Week

May 2
Shannon Perrigo, Westminster College (Hitter)
Shannon Perrigo, a senior from Tebbetts, Mo., is this week's SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week. Perrigo racked up seven hits over four conference games, driving in seven and hitting a home run. Perrigo went 3-for-5 in a double header against Blackburn, helping her team win both games. She followed by picking up four more hits in a double header against Principia, both wins. In game two of the double header Perrigo was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. On the week Perrigo was 7-for-10 at the plate with three runs scored and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

Amber Kilburn, Spalding University (Pitcher)
Amber Kilburn is this week's SLIAC Pitcher of the Week after notching a complete game win over Iowa Wesleyan last week. Kilburn, a freshman from Salem, Ind., went all seven innings in game one of a double header, picking up her fourth win of the season. Kilburn limited Iowa Wesleyan to just six hits, allowing no runs while striking out three. With a 2-0 lead in the seventh inning, Kilbrun worked out of a jam stranding the tying runs on base by recording a pair of pop-ups to end the game.

April 25
Tessa Johanning, Webster University (Hitter)
Tessa Johanning, a sophomore from Sullivan, Mo., is the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week. Johanning helped the Gorloks extend their winning streak to 11 games with a win over Robert Morris-Springfield and a double header sweep of Iowa Wesleyan before seeing the streak end against Coe. Johanning hit .438 on the week with one home run and seven runs batted in during five games. She had three multi-hit games on the week including a 2-for-3 performance in game two against Iowa Wesleyan; adding a grand slam and finishing with five RBI. Johanning finished the week 7-of-16 at the plate with a .750 slugging percentage.

Chelsea Thornley, Webster University (Pitcher)
Chelsea Thornley is this week's SLIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week after notching two wins for the Gorloks last week. Thornley, a sophomore from Clinton, Mo., came on in relief against Robert Morris-Springfield; throwing 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win in the high scoring 15-12 affair. She recorded five strikeouts and allowed four hits, ending a rally in the fourth. Thornley then took the circle against Iowa Wesleyan, picking up a win in a five inning game. Against the Tigers she allowed just one run and five hits while striking out three. On the week Thornley finished with eight strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings with a 4.04 earned-run average.

April 18
Alyssa Johnson, Westminster College (Hitter)
Alyssa Johnson is the SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week after hitting .692 with two home runs and 10 runs batted in while helping the Blue Jays go 4-0 on the week. Johnson closed out the week with three straight three hit games. She was 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI in game two against Fontbonne, helping the Blue Jays wrap up a sweep of Fontbonne. She then went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI in game one against Iowa Wesleyan. On the week she was 9-for-13 at the plate, scoring three runs and finishing with a 1.231 slugging percentage.

Alexis Spriggs, Webster University (Pitcher)
Spriggs, a junior from Scott City, MO (Scott City HS), notched three wins and a save in four appearances last week. Spriggs picked up the win in an 8-3 victory over the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, going seven innings and allowing no earned runs while striking out three.  She started and pitched four scoreless innings in an 8-0 (5 inn) win over Principia College, giving up just three hits and striking out four.  Spriggs had a save in a 7-5 win over Spalding University, pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to finish the contest.  Spriggs came back in game two of the doubleheader vs. Spalding to record her third victory of the week, throwing all eight innings in a 4-3 win, allowing just two earned runs and striking out three


April 11

ca Burney, Westminster College (Hitter)
Erica Burney, a junior from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., had a record setting performance last week in earning Player of the Week honors. Burney set a new school record for single season runs batted in. She hit .733 over four games, driving in seven and hitting two home runs. Burney was 11-for-15 at the plate, with three three hit games. She finished the week with a 1.267 slugging percentage, with two long balls and two doubles. Burney now has 34 RBI on the season, breaking the record in game two of a double header against MacMurray College.

Shannon Perrigo, a senior from Tebbetts, Mo., recorded a pair of conference wins for Westminster last week. She notched two complete games including a two-hitter over MacMurray. Perrigo began the week with a win in game two of a double header against Webster, going seven innings and allowing one earned run while striking out eight. She closed out the week with seven innings of work in a win over MacMurray, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. On the week Perrigo finished with a 2.00 earned-run average and 15 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched, allowing 11 hits total.

April 4
Kerrigan Dura, Eureka College (Hitter)
Kerrign Dura, a freshman from Brimfield, Ill., had a week to remember; garnering SLIAC Softball Hitter of the Week honors. Dura helped the Red Devils to a perfect 8-0 record on the week, hitting .750 with one home run and 25 runs batted in. Dura had six multi-hit games including four hits in both games of a sweep of Westminster College. In that double header against Westmisnter, Dura finished 8-for-9 with 14 RBI and five runs scored. On the week Dura was 21-of-28 at the plate, scoring 17 runs, and finishing with a .788 on-base percentage and a 1.357 slugging percentage. Dura has already set the program record for RBI in a season with 46.

March 28
Katelyn Sullens, Webster University (Hitter)
Katelyn Sullens, a junior from Highland, Ill., was literally unstoppable last week as the Gorloks opened up SLIAC play with a double header against MacMurray. Sullens, an outfielder, was a perfect 5-for-5 in the two games, leading her team to a split. Sullens went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in in the first game of the double header. She followed by going 2-for-2 with a walk and three runs scored in her team's 12-6 win. Sullens finished with eight total bases and four runs scored on the week.

Kali George, Eureka College (Pitcher)
Kali George, a sophomore from East Peoria, Ill., notched one her team's two wins in a double header sweep of Rockford. George threw game one of the double header, going seven innings and allowing just one run. She allowed just one hit, and three walks, while striking out six batters.

March 21
Kerrigan Dura, Eureka College (Hitter)
Kerrigan Dura, a freshman from Brimfield, Ill., powered a red hot Red Devil offense to six wins last week; hitting .500 and driving in 14 runners over an eight game span. Dura finished the week 15-for-30 with six multi-hit games including three three hit performances. Dura went 3-for-4 with four RBI in a win over Keystone and followed the next day with a 3-for-4 game against Sarah Lawrence. She added three hits against Alverno, driving in three. Dura also drove in five in an 8-3 win over Morrisville State. On the week Dura finished with an .867 slugging percentage, with one home run, two doubles, and three triples.

Chelsea Thornley, Webster University (Pitcher)
Chelsea Thornley, a sophomore from Clinton, Mo., helped the Gorloks pick up their second win of the season in a close 1-0 win over Rose-Hulman. Thornley threw all seven innings in the shut out win, scattering five hits and striking out two. Thornley allowed just three runners to reach second base in the game as she recorded her first win of the season.

March 14
Michaela Brewer, Iowa Wesleyan University (Hitter)
Brewer, a freshman from Nevada, Mo., got off to a fast start to the 2016 season, picking up a hit in each of her team's first eight games. Brewer hit .423 over the week with two home runs and six runs batted in. She had three multi-hit games on the week with an impressive game against Shawnee State; going 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. For the week Brewer was 11-for-26 at the plate, scoring eight runs and finishing with a .692 slugging percentage.

Samantha McIlwain, Iowa Wesleyan University (Pitcher)
McIlwain, a sophomore from Boone, Iowa, made four appearances last week including two starts. She picked up wins against Shawnee STate and Penn State-Hazleton. On the week she went 2-1 with a 1.68 earned-run average and 24 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched. McIlwain picked up the win over Shawnee State going two innings while allowing three hits and striking out two. She threw 3.2 innings of relief work against Delaware Valley, striking out six and closed out her week with seven innings of two hit ball against Penn State-Hazleton; recording 12 strikeouts.
