Panthers Drop Contest to Chicago, End Season

The softball team rallied late against Chicago but left the tying run on second base as the game ended to wrap up their appearance in the program's first NCAA tournament with a 7-6 loss.

After a scoreless first frame, Chicago obtained single runs in the second and third innings.  By the middle of the fourth inning, Chicago was ahead by a 5-0 margin.

Greenville got three back by the end of the fifth inning to draw close.  The Lady Panthers received an RBI double from Thacker in the fourth inning.  The Greenville runs in the fifth inning came on a two-run single from Anaya Tobiason, who eventually ended the game with four RBI.

Chicago pulled away again in the sixth when a throwing error and a double made the score 7-3.

The Maroons would need that four-run cushion when the Lady Panthers rallied back hard in the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back doubles from Tobiason and Tiffany Samsoe scored three runs, and Samsoe was standing on second base with one out.  A reliever retired Andrea Martin and Laney Thacker to end the game.

Brianna Anderson took the loss in the circle for Greenville as she pitched all seven innings with seven runs, five earned, allowed.  She also collected two hits.

Bryn McKie led Greenville with a 3-for-4 contest, including a double.

Samsoe and Tobiason also picked up two hits.

The Lady Panthers concluded their season with a record of 23-22-1.
