Westminster's Burney Named NFCA All-American

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2016 NFCA All-Americans on Wednesday, May 25 at the Division III Championship Awards Banquet in Salem, Va., and Westminster College's Erica Burney announced as the NFCA All-America Third Team First Baseman.

Burney, a junior first baseman from Ste. Genevieve, Mo., is the first player in program history and the 11th in conference history to be named a NFCA All-American. Earlier this season, she was named to the NFCA All-Region First Team and was the first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Year in program history. She was also named to the SLIAC All-Conference First Team.

Burney currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division III softball in batting average (.540) and on base percentage (.589) and seventh in the nation in slugging percentage (.927). She also ranks in the top 20 in four other categories. She led the conference in home runs (11) and ranked second in the conference in runs batted in with 54. She broke the Westminster career home run record in just one season with her 11 homers and broke four season records, including batting average, home runs, RBI and hits. She also tied the season doubles record with 15.  She produced 67 hits on the year including 26 extra base hits. 

The Westminster softball team closed the 2016 campaign with a 22-17 record. They tied for second in conference play with a 13-5 record and took second in the SLIAC Tournament.
