Blue Jays Flying High After Securing Regular Season Title

Westminster softball swept Greenville to claim the SLIAC regular season title as well as earn the No. 1 seed for the SLIAC Tournament next weekend.

The championship is the first-ever for the Westminster softball program.

The Blue Jays end the regular season with an overall record of 23-11 and a conference record of 16-2, both record wins for the program. 

Alyson Han took the mound in game one for Westminster, pitching five straight scoreless innings. She didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. 

Westminster got on the board first in the second inning with an RBI double from Callie Collier with the bases loaded, scoring Anne Baker and Erica Burney

The Panthers didn't score until the sixth inning when an RBI single and a home run put Greenville on top 3-2. 

It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that Westminster would claim the win. After a single from Callie Collier and Laidley getting hit with a pitch, Amber Tepen stepped up to the plate to smash a double to center field and score the walk-off run. 

Katie Price took the mound in game two, pitching the full game and allowing three runs, two earned. 

She helped her own cause with an RBI double in the second to start the Blue Jays off, scoring Mackenzie Meyers. 

A three-run top of the fourth put the Panthers back on top, but that would be the only inning in which Greenville could score. 

Laidley added an RBI single in in the fourth to tie the game, and a two-run home run from Erica Burney secured the second win and the conference championship for Westminster. 

"I am immensely proud," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. " Winning a conference championship is an amazing accomplishment for this group. We will celebrate this historic win for Westminster and get back to work on Monday."
