Panther Softball Season Comes To An End Against Hope

Panther Softball Season Comes To An End Against Hope

The softball team was one out away from Greenville College's first win in NCAA tournament play, but a two-out rally by Hope in the bottom of the seventh lifted them to a 6-5 victory over Greenville.

Greenville opened the scoring early with a two-run home run from Becca Oldham in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Hope answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third.

Greenville tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth when Amanda Atteberry hit an RBI single.

The Flying Dutch regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth, but Greenville took the lead in the top of the sixth after Kate Jolliff's RBI single drove in one run and another runner came around to score on the play.

Reliever Brianna Anderson picked up the loss to fall to 13-8.  She permitted two runs, one earned, on four hits.

Caitie Opp started in the circle and completed five innings.

The Lady Panthers (24-17) concluded their season with a second appearance in the NCAA tournament and second SLIAC tournament crown.
