Griffins Team Up with Special Olympics

On Sunday, the Fontbonne University softball, women's volleyball, and men's volleyball teams went out to Washington High School to team up with Special Olympics Missouri on their flag football tournament.

"It was a really great experience being able to work with the participants from SOMO," said junior softball player Lauren Proehl. "They were all so full of life and laughter. The enjoyment of being part of something as great as SOMO does not compare."

Fontbonne student-athletes helped run the event by marking downs, keeping score, assisting referees, passing out medals, and being event support in general. Upcoming Special Olympics events include soccer, bowling, and basketball with the winter months approaching.

"This is an event that I meant to get our teams involved with sooner, but we're excited to be teaming up with SOMO as much as we can in the future," said head softball coach Casey Cromwell. "The girls had a great time helping run the event and supporting those who were involved in the games. We plan to spend more time with SOMO in the future, along with helping coordinate and support more events in the future."
