Webster's Meyer Chosen as 2011 Josten's Trophy Finalist

ST. LOUIS - Webster University women's basketball player, Katy Meyer, has been selected as a finalist for the 2011 Josten's Trophy. This prestigious national award for men's and women's NCAA III basketball players, considers academic prowess and community service, along with athletic ability. Meyer, a senior from Parkway Central High School in Chesterfield, is one of 11 finalists for the award.

Meyer averages 14 points and seven rebounds for the Gorloks, She became the fifth player in Webster women's basketball history to score 1000 points in a career earlier this season. In addition, she is fourth in career rebounds, second in blocked shots, and first in three-point baskets made. Meyer is currently 22nd nationally in the NCAA III in 3-point FG %. She was selected St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First-Team All-Conference for 2010-11, and was chosen MVP of the SLIAC Tournament, which Webster won to advance to the NCAA III Championships.

In the classroom, Meyer has a 3.87 cumulative grade point average. A political science/Spanish double major, she has made the Dean's list three different years and was named SLIAC Academic All-Conference for all three years she was eligible. Meyer has studied overseas, doing a summer study in Argentina.

Getting involved in the community, Meyer has volunteered at a shelter for battered women, getting classmates and teammates involved as well. In addition, Meyer has volunteered at the International Institute, working with refugees, utilizing her language skills.

Meyer is the first women's basketball player in SLIAC history to be a finalist for the award, and only the third player overall. Brady Barke, a Webster University men's basketball player (2004) and Kevin Bartow of Maryville University (Mo.) (2003) were also finalists.
