2011-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week

Feb 13-19
Lindsay Sydness (Principia)
Principia College's Lindsay Sydness, a senior from Wellesley Hills, Mass., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 13-19. It marks the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Sydness, a 6-1 center, averaged 16.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 9.0 blocks in three games played last week. She started the week with 10 points, eight rebounds, seven blocks and three assists in a 67-50 loss to Fontbonne University. Sydness then added 15 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks and one steal in a 65-43 non-conference loss to St. Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sydness finished the week with her second triple-double of the season in a 57-49 win over Greenville College. She recorded 24 points, 12 rebounds and 13 blocks, while also adding two assists, two steals and shooting 7-of-13 (.539) from the field and 10-of-13 (.769) from the free throw line.

Feb 6-12
Lindsay Sydness (Principia)
Principia College's Lindsay Sydness, a senior from Wellesley Hills, Mass., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February 6-12.

Sydness, a 6-1 center, recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 17 blocks in a 49-37 loss to Webster University in conference play. The 17 blocks is a school and SLIAC record, breaking the old record of 11 blocks set by Sydness last season. Sydness added a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds in Principia's 53-29 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Sydness averaged a double-double for the week with 15.5 points and 13.0 rebounds. She was just shy of averaging a triple-double with 9.0 blocks for the week. In addition to her blocked shots on the defensive end, Sydness also hit the boards, tallying 22 of her 26 rebounds for the week on the defensive end.

Khassandrae Brown (Eureka)
Eureka College's Khassandrae Brown, a senior from East Peoria, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 30-February 5. This marks the third time this season that she has earned the honor.

Brown, a 6-0 forward, averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in two conference wins last week that extended the Red Devils win streak to nine games. She recorded 13 points and eight rebounds in a 73-50 victory versus Blackburn College. Brown then scored 24 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in an 81-65 win over Webster University. She shot 8-of-18 (.444) from the field and 8-of-11 (.727) from the free throw line, while also adding three assists and one block in the win.

Jessica Guy (Spalding)
Spalding University's Jessica Guy, a freshman from Louisville, Ky. (Moore), has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 23-29. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Guy, a 5-11 forward, recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Golden Eagles defeated Westminster College (Mo.), 71-68, to break the Blue Jays' 30-game regular season win streak. Guy shot 6-of-12 (.500) from the field and 4-of -7 (.571) from the free throw line, while also added one assist and one steal. She added seven points, six rebounds and three steals as well last week in a 60-56 loss to Fontbonne University.

Jan 16-22
Khassandrae Brown (Eureka)
Eureka College's Khassandrae Brown, a senior from East Peoria, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 16-22. This marks the second time this season that she has earned the honor.

Brown, a 6-0 forward, averaged 20.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and shot 72.4 percent (21-of-29) in three games played last week. She started the week with her seventh double-double of the season in an 82-69 win over Spalding University. She scored 29 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and shot 13-of-16 (.813) from the charity stripe in the win.

Brown added another 20-point performance on 8-of-11 (.727) shooting from the field and 4-of-4 (1.000) from the free throw line in Eureka's 88-66 victory versus Blackburn College. She finished the week with 13 points, three assists and two steals in an 83-44 win against Principia College.

Jan 9-15
Caty Eeten (Eureka)
Eureka College's Caty Eeten, a sophomore from Eureka, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 9-15. This marks the fourth time this season that she has earned the honor.

Eeten, a 5-10 guard, averaged 30.0 points and 7.0 rebounds as the Red Devils went 2-0 in conference play last week. Eeten scored 28 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists in an 81-62 victory versus Webster University. She shot a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe and finished 8-of-15 (.533) from the floor. Eeten topped that performance with 32 points on 12-of-17 (.706) shooting from the field, seven rebounds and two assists in a 79-63 win against Fontbonne University.

Rachel Backes (Westminster (Mo.))
Westminster College's Rachel Backes, a senior from Tipton, Mo., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of January 2-8.

Backes, a 5-4 guard, surpassed 1,000 career points last week with her 24-point performance in an 88-60 win over Fontbonne University. She also added eight rebounds and three steals in the win. Backes added 17 points, four rebounds and two assists in an 80-67 victory against Eureka College that helped the Blue Jays improve to 4-0 in conference play.

Caty Eeten (Eureka)
Eureka College's Caty Eeten, a sophomore from Eureka, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 19-January 1. It marks the third time this season that she has earned the honor.

Eeten, a 5-10 guard, averaged 28.0 points and shot 54.3 percent (19-of-35) from the field at the D3Hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada. Eeten, who never left the floor in either of the Red Devils' two games, also compiled eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals while shooting 85.0 percent (17-of-20) from the free throw line.

Eeten scored 30 points on 11-of-20 (.550) shooting from the field and 8-of-10 (.800) from the charity stripe in a 63-52 win over Concordia University (Wis.) in Eureka's opening game of the Classic. She also posted five rebounds, three steals and two blocks in the win. Eeten added 26 points, five assists and shot 9-of-10 (.900) from the foul line in a 94-70 loss to Simpson College.

Khassandrae Brown (Eureka)
Eureka College's Khassandrae Brown, a senior from East Peoria, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 12-18.

Brown, a 6-0 forward, scored a game-high 19 points and tied a personal career-best with 17 rebounds in Eureka's 76-34 non-conference win over Silver Lake College. She shot 7-of-12 (.583) from the field and grabbed nine of her 17 boards on the offensive end of the court. Brown also added four steals and one assist in the win.

Jessica Guy (Spalding)
Spalding University's Jessica Guy, a freshman from Louisville, Ky. (Moore), has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 5-11.

Guy, a 5-11 forward, averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two contests including her second career double-double. In a 61-50 victory over Midway College, she had career-highs with 27 points (on 12-of-16 shooting) and 11 assists. The performance followed a six-point, eight-rebound night in a 63-37 loss to Indiana University-Southeast. Guy also registered two steals and one assist in each game.

Sarah Corbitt (Principia)
Principia College's Sarah Corbitt, a junior from St. Louis, Mo. (Principia Upper), has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 28-December 4.

Corbitt, a 5-8 guard, led Principia to a 2-0 start in SLIAC play last week. She averaged 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two games played last week. Corbitt scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out six assists and tallied six steals in a 50-46 win over Blackburn College in their conference opener. She recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 68-58 victory versus Eureka College. Corbitt, who hit four three-point shots in each game, shot 4-of-6 (.667) from behind the arc against the Red Devils and hit 7-of-12 (.583) from the field for the game.

Nov 21-27
Caty Eeten (Eureka)
Eureka College's Caty Eeten, a sophomore from Eureka, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 21-27. It marks the second consecutive week that she has earned the honor.

Eeten, a 5-10 guard, continued her brisk early-season scoring pace by pouring in 35 points in Eureka's 80-57 win at Concordia University (Ill.), marking Eureka's largest margin of victory against an NCAA Division III opponent in more than two seasons. She shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from the field and 85.7 percent (12-of-14) from the free throw line. Eeten also added 11 rebounds to record a double-double, while also tallying five assists and two steals.

Nov 15-20
Caty Eeten (Eureka)
Eureka College's Caty Eeten, sophomore from Eureka, Ill., has been named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 15-21.

Eeten, a 5-10 guard, opened the 2011-12 season with back-to-back double-doubles and a scoring record. She had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Eureka's season-opening victory, 74-65, against Robert Morris University-Springfield. Eeten shot 10-of-14 (.714) from the field, 6-of-8 (.750) from the free throw line and recorded seven assists, two steals and two blocks in the win.

Eeten then scored 49 points on 17-of-26 (.654) shooting from the field and 15-of-20 (.750) from the charity stripe to break the Red Devils' single-game scoring record and lead Eureka to a 117-98 victory versus Knox College. She also added seven assists, two steals and two blocks.
