SLIAC Honors Continue for Eureka's Caty Eeten; Women's Basketball Award Winners Announced

ST. LOUIS - Eureka College's Caty Eeten was named the SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year to go along with her four Player of the Week awards she earned throughout the 2011-12 season. The other SLIAC award winners were also announced, including Webster's Cassie Endicott as Newcomer of the Year and Eureka's Taren Martin as Coach of the Year.

Eeten, who was last year's Newcomer of the Year, continued her outstanding play in 2011-12 to earn SLIAC Player of the Year honors. Eeten, a sophomore guard, led the conference in scoring with an average of 21.4 points per game. She also dished out a league-high 70 assists and ranked second with an 85.0 free throw percentage.

Endicott, a freshman center, was named the SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. She averaged 9.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in the conference this season. She also posted a league second-best 36 blocks and ranked third with a 52.3 field goal percentage.

Martin, who is only in her second year with the Red Devils, is the first Eureka head coach to earn SLIAC Coach of the Year honors. She led her squad to a 20-4 overall record and 13-3 in the SLIAC. Eureka's 13 league victories were the most by a Eureka women's basketball squad since they began conference-affiliated competition at the NCAA Division III level in 1996-97. The Red Devils' nine-win improvement from a year ago also proved to be the largest single-season improvement in program history.

Westminster College (Mo.) received the Sportsmanship Award for the first time since the award's inception in 2005-06. The team Sportsmanship Award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best exhibit the principles of good sportsmanship. The SLIAC also recognizes one individual from each team, selected by his coach and teammates, who throughout the season best displays the ideals fo sportsmanship.
