Eureka's Caty Eeten Named Preseason All-American by D3Hoops.com

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Eureka College junior guard Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) has received preseason All-America Honorable Mention from D3Hoops.com, according to an announcement from the website late Sunday night. Eeten’s selection marks Eureka’s first women’s basketball All-America choice of any kind since Jami Larson received NAIA All-America Honorable Mention in 1992-93.

The 2011-12 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year enters her third collegiate season with 895 career points, needing an additional 133 points to reach Eureka’s all-time top-10 list. Eeten scored 594 of her points in 2011-12, breaking Sherry Bryan’s 27-year-old Eureka record of 583 for single-season scoring.

Eeten also make 190 free throws last season, breaking Jessica Reardon’s 2003-04 record of 160. The 5-foot-10 guard also set or matched single-game Eureka records last season with 49 points and 17 field goals made against Knox on Nov. 17, 20 free throws made against Greenville on Nov. 30 and 14 assists at Blackburn on Jan. 18.

Eeten is no stranger to D3Hoops.com, having earned the Central Region Rookie of the Year award as a freshman in 2010-11 and being named to the All-Central Region Second Team last season. She is one of only five players from the Central Region and the only player from the SLIAC to earn preseason All-America honors in 2012-13.

Eeten is the SLIAC’s first D3Hoops.com preseason All-American and just the third SLIAC player to be named to a D3Hoops.com All-America Team. Fontbonne’s Amy Hauschild was a Second Team postseason selection in 2001 and Webster’s Halley Spann was picked for the postseason Third Team in 2003.

D3Hoops.com was originally conceived and maintained in the winter of 1994-95 and took the name D3Hoops.com on July 10, 1999. The 2012-13 season marks the 19th season the organization has been dedicated to covering NCAA Division III basketball on a national level. The website has selected postseason All-Americans since the 1997-98 season, while this season marks the third year for preseason selections. A total of 25 players were named preseason All-Americans on Sunday.

Eeten and the Red Devils are scheduled to open the 2012-13 season on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Knox at 6 p.m.. The home opener at the Reagan Center follows on Saturday, Nov. 24 against Concordia (Ill.) at 1 p.m. Eureka is scheduled to play 25 regular season games during the upcoming season, including a two-game trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico in December.
