2013-14 Women's Basketball Players of the Week

FEB. 24 - JESSICA GUY, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
Jessica Guy, a junior forward from Louisville, Ky., led her team to a pair of wins last week and capturing the top seed in the SLIAC Tournament. Guy started the week with 23 points and 19 rebounds in a win over MacMurray. She followed with 17 points and 13 rebounds against Greenville and 15 points and 11 rebounds against Westminster. On the week Guy averaged 18.3 points, 14.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 60-percent from the floor. This marks the second time this season Guy has earned weekly conference honors.

FEB. 17 - SHELBY SMITH, BLACKBURN COLLEGE
Shelby Smith, a senior forward from Elsah, Ill., is the SLIAC Player of the Week. Smith averaged 22.3 points per game over three games last week, including contests against two of the top teams in the league (Spalding and Iowa Wesleyan). Smith recorded 15 points, five rebounds and three steals against Spalding. She followed with 22 points, five rebounds and two assists in a win over Fontbonne. Smith once again increased her scoring output with a 30 point effort against Iowa Wesleyan in which she also grabbed five rebounds and picked up six blocked shots. On the week Smith averaged 22.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game. This marks the second time this season Smith has earned the weekly award.

FEB. 10 - LEIGH ANN LUTZ, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Leigh Ann Lutz is this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Lutz, a senior guard from California, Mo., guided her team to two wins while scoring over 20 points in both games. In her team's win over Greenville Lutz scored 25 points, going 5-of-9 from three-point range, while adding four steals. She netted 24 points in a win over Fontbonne, again knocking down five three-pointers, while adding three assists and three steals. For the week Lutz averaged 24.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game. Lutz also became the program's all-time scoring leader last week.

FEB. 3 - SHELBY SMITH, BLACKBURN COLLEGE
Smith, a senior forward from Jerseyville, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Smith put together back to back 20-point games last week to garner the honors. Against Webster Smith scored 21 points, on 7-of-9 shooting, and added six rebounds and two blocked shots. Two days later she followed with 23 points and six rebounds in a win over Westminster. On the week Smith averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

JAN. 27 - KELSEY SHOEMAKE, EUREKA COLLEGE
Kelsey Shoemake has been named this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Shoemake averaged a double-double last week in two games. She started a week with a double-double, recording 11 points and 13 rebounds with three steals and two blocks in a win over Blackburn. Shoemake then helped lead her team to a win over Westminster. Shoemake scored a game high 25 points, on 12-of-17 shooting, while grabbing nine rebounds and adding two steals and three blocks. On the week she averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.5 blocks. This is the third time this season she has earned weekly honors.

JAN. 20 - JESSICA GUY, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
Jessica Guy, a junior forward from Louisville, Ky., is this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Guy helped her team to a pair of conference wins last week, recording a double-double in both outings. Guy put up 20 points in a win over Greenville, finishing 8-of-13 shooting, while adding 11 rebounds and four steals. Against Fontbonne Guy scored 13 points while grabbing 12 rebounds and adding two assists and two blocked shots. On the week Guy averaged 16.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

JAN. 13 -KELSEY SHOEMAKE, EUREKA COLLEGE
Kelsey Shoemake, a junior forward from East Peoria, Ill., has been named the SLIAC Player of the Week. Shoemake recorded a double-double in both of her outings on the week. She finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds against Spalding and then put up 20 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Fontbonne. For the week Shoemake averaged 20.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She finished the week shooting 60.7 percent from the field and 78-percent from the free-throw line. This is the second time this season Shoemake has earned Player of the Week honors.

JAN. 6 -WHITNEY GODDEN, IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
Whitney Godden, a junior guard from Mattoon, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Godden helped her team to an 86-81 win over Buena Vista this past weekend. In the win Godden scored a team high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting. With her team leading by just one point late, Godden knocked down a pair of free-throws to help put the game away. Godden hit on five of her eight three-point shots and added three rebounds and two assists in the game.

DEC. 30 - BRIANA RAE, BLACKBURN COLLEGE
Rae, a junior forward from Staunton, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after leading her team in scoring in a game against Linfield on Sunday. Rae netted 23 points, nearly half her team's points, while grabbing a game high 15 rebounds including 10 offfensive rebounds. Rae was 11-of-23 from the field and added three steals in the game.

DEC. 23 - CATY EETEN, EUREKA COLLEGE
Eeten, a senior guard/forward from Eureka, Ill., is the SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Eeten helped her team to a pair of wins on the week and notched two 20-point games including a 40 point scoring effort. Eeten started the week with a 40 point game against Westminster, the second highest scoring output by a women's basketball player in a SLIAC conference game. She followed with 19 points and five assists against Dubuque and closed out the week with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists against Bridgewater. On the week Eeten averaged 27.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 61-percent from the field.

DEC. 16 - CATY EETEN, EUREKA COLLEGE
Eeten, a senior guard/forward from Eureka, Ill., tallied back to back 20 point games for the Red Devils last week. Facing an NCAA Division I foe, Nebraska-Omaha, Eeten scored 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting while grabbing five rebounds. Eeten followed with 29 points in a 70-67 win over Webster, adding nine rebounds and six assists. For the week Eeten averaged 27.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. She shot 51-percent from the field and was 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.

DEC. 9 - RACHEL PEREA, PRINCIPIA COLLEGE
Perea, a freshman forward from Long Island, N.Y., was named this week's SLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping her team to a pair of wins. Perea recorded a double-double in all three of her team's games on the week, averaging 16.3 points and 12 rebounds per game. Perea's highlight performance came in a 61-51 win over MacMurray College in which she netted 20 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and picking up eight steals. Perea added a 14 point and 12 rebound effort in a win over Stephens and followed with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Spalding. Perea played all 40 minutes in each of the three games and added eight assists, 14 steals and three blocks on the week.

DEC. 2 - CIARA MORGAN, BLACKBURN COLLEGE
For the second consecutive week Morgan is the league's Player of the Week. Morgan, a junior forward from Springfield, Illinois, put together a rare feat in her only game of the week, recording a 20-20 effort in points and rebounds. Morgan scored 24 points and added 22 rebounds in a 112-89 loss to Dubuque. Morgan also added seven assists and four steals in the contest.

NOV. 25 - CIARA MORGAN, BLACKBURN COLLEGE
Morgan, a junior forward from Springfield, Illinois, helped Blackburn secure their first win of the season, a 68-67 victory over Augustana. Morgan was the game's leading scorer with 25 points including three three-pointers, while adding nine rebounds, four assists and eight steals. In the win Morgan gave the Beavers the lead with six second remaining on a free-throw. She sealed the win by stealing the ball as time expired to prevent a last second shot attempt. Earlier in the week Morgan tallied 13 points, seven rebounds five steals in a loss to Central (Iowa). On the week Morgan averaged 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 6.5 steals per game.

NOV. 18 - KELSEY SHOEMAKE, EUREKA COLLEGE
Shoemake, a junior forward from East Peoria, Ill., started the season off with a double-double performance in her teams 51-48 win over Lawrence. Shoemake scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win, adding a career-high five blocked shots and two steals. Shoemake finished 5 of 10 from the field and went 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.
