Vietinghoff Joins Rare Company With Second Consecutive Player of the Year Award
Iowa Wesleyan's Karla Vietinghoff joined rare company in the SLIAC as she was named the Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, becoming just the third player to win the award multiple times. Vietinghoff led her team in scoring this year and averaged 17.2 points per game during conference play. Despite suffering an injury late in the year she still managed to finish third in the conference with 43 three pointers. She joins Halley Spann (Webster) and Elizabeth Klotz (Fontbonne) as the only players in SLIAC history to take home the conference's top individual award more than once.
Kayla Styles, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., is the 2015 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year after helping led her team to the SLIAC regular season title. Styles averaged a team high 17.3 points per game. She also averaged 9.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game during conference play this year; ranking third in scoring and in the top six in rebounds, blocks, and steals. In addition she recorded 12 double doubles this year and becomes Spalding's first Newcomer of the Year winner.
The SLIAC Coach of the Year is Spalding's Charlie Just. This marks the second consecutive season Just has been named the Coach of the Year. This season Just guided the Golden Eagles to a 20-4 overall record, going 17-1 in conference play to win the program's first ever SLIAC regular season title.
Westminster College was awarded the SLIAC Team Sportsmanship Award for the fourth consecutive season. The award recognizes the importance of sportsmanship. The award is given to the team whose players, coaches and fans best represent the principles of good sportsmanship
