Westminster's Gatson Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

The 2016 Academic All-District Women's Basketball, selected by the College Sports Information Director (CoSIDA), were released today and Westminster's Kasey Gatson, a senior from Vandalia, Mo., was among the list of honorees.

Gatson, a senior guard for the Westminster Blue Jays, holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a secondary business education major. 

On the basketball court, Gatson has seen the floor in 92 games. She has scored 855 points and holds a 44.2 career field goal percentage. She has 255 rebounds, 176 assists and 112 steals.

This season, Gatson holds a 43.3 field goal percentage and a 42.9 three-point percentage. She has currently started in all 21 games and averages 13.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. 

Gatson joins four other Blue Jays in program history on the All-District list for women's basketball. Amy Schaeperkoetter (1997-98), Mariah Dreisinger (2004-05), Rachel Backes (2010-11, 2011-12) and Leigh Ann Lutz (2013-14) earned the award. Lutz was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team in 2013-14.

Gatson is now eligible for the All-American team selected later in the season. Since 2011, Capital One has sponsored both the All-District and All-American awards.

Each year, CoSIDA elects Academic All-District members across NCAA Division I, II, III, and "College Division." The College Division is comprised of NAIA, two-year, and Canadian student-athletes. Student-athletes are nominated by current CoSIDA members—usually an institution's Sports Information Director— and must carry at least 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA). Nominated student-athletes must also be of sophomore athletic eligibility and be significant contributors to the success of their team.
