2015-16 Women's Basketball All-Conference Team
Since their arrival in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Iowa Wesleyan University women's basketball team has had a stranglehold on the league's Player of the Year award. Tiger Rachel Williams is the 2015-16 SLIAC Player of the Year, joining former teammate, and two-time winner, Karla Vietinghoff in winning the award and making it three consecutive years a Tiger has won the award.
Williams, a senior guard from Phoenix, Ariz., was a do-it-all guard for the Tigers; averaging 16.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists during conference games. In addition she ranked third in the league with 48 steals. Williams finished in the top of the conference in scoring, assists, and steals this season while also ranking seventh in three-pointers and first in free-throw percentage with a remarkable 93-percent; missing a total of just four free-throws this season. She scored in double figures in every game this season and put up a career high 32 points against Westminster.
MacMurray College freshman Brianna Markusic is the 2015-16 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year. Markusic, a forward from Oak Lawn, Ill., was an inside force for the Highlanders averaging 17.9 points per game during conference play despite playing just over 23-minutes per game. She shot 53-percent from the field, fourth best in the league, and averaged 8.1 rebounds per game. Markusic also recorded 36 blocked shots this season, second most during the year. She is the third Highlander in program history to be named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year, joining Meredith Pettit (2000-01) and Taylor Volmer (2006-07).
Westminster College head coach Tracey Braden was voted the 2015-16 SLIAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Blue Jays to the regular season championship with a 16-2 conference record. The Blue Jays finished 20-4 overall this season and take a 14 game winning streak, the second longest streak in school history, into the conference tournament.
