Arbogast Takes Over Eureka Women's Basketball Program

Amos Arbogast has been selected as the new head coach of the Eureka College women's basketball program. Arbogast, who has served the EC men's basketball program as an assistant coach since 2011, becomes the 12th head coach in Eureka women's basketball history.

"I would like to thank Steve Thompson, President Wright and everyone involved in the selection process for the opportunity to lead this group of young women and this program going forward," Arbogast said. "I am grateful for the opportunity and I look forward to building upon the championship success established by the women's basketball program at Eureka College."

Arbogast played a pivotal role as an assistant on Chip Wilde's coaching staff for a Eureka men's basketball program that has proved to be a contender in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). Arbogast helped guide the Red Devils to consecutive berths to the SLIAC Tournament semifinals in 2012 and 2013, including an appearance in the title game in 2013. Last season, Eureka set a new single-season team scoring record with 90.5 points per game.

"We are excited for Coach Arbogast to transition to head women's basketball coach," said Steve Thompson, Director of Athletics. "Amos is focused on academics, a tireless recruiter and committed to the development of our student-athletes.  I am very excited for him to take the reins of our championship level program."

In addition to his in-game responsibilities, Arbogast has been involved in the day-to-day operations of EC men's basketball. His recruiting efforts alongside Wilde have helped the Red Devils welcome large incoming classes of freshmen and transfer students. Arbogast prepared scouting reports for opponents, developed players' skills through individual workouts and coordinated video exchange with opponents. Arbogast also assisted in fundraising and worked with Eureka's Learning Center Director to ensure quality academic progress of student-athletes.

Prior to his arrival 'Neath The Elms in 2011, Arbogast began his basketball coaching career in 2009 as an assistant coach at Tri-Valley High School in Downs, Ill. Arbogast also boasts extensive experience as an instructor at youth basketball camps, including camps conducted by EC, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association, the NCAA Final Four, Western Illinois, Bradley and Tri-Valley High School.

A native of Ankeny, Iowa, Arbogast graduated from Ankeny High School in 2002. Arbogast attended the University of Iowa, earning a B.A. in psychology in 2006. He married the former Colleen McGlaughlin in January 2010. The Arbogasts live in Bloomington and have two sons, Titus (3) and Judge (11 months).

Four starters and nine letter winners are eligible to return from last season's Eureka team that swept the SLIAC regular-season and tournament championships. The Red Devils finished the campaign 20-8 overall and qualified for their first-ever NCAA Tournament.
