Massner Named CoSIDA Academic All-America

The Academic All-America® Division III Men's and Women's Basketball Teams were announced Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

There were 15 women named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® team, and the average GPA of the team was 3.95, which was matched by the members of the first team.  Of the 15 women, six had perfect 4.0 GPAs. Iowa Wesleyan's own Darby Massner (JR/Mediapolis, IA), a junior from Mediapolis, Iowa, is one of the six individuals who has a 4.0.

Massner was named  Third Team Academic All-America® by CoSIDA.  She is a two time United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National All-Academic honoree, as well as a two time St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Winter Sports All-Academic team recipient.

On the court, Massner was a key contributor to the women's basketball team, leading the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 rpg).  She finished the season with a 32 percent field goal and three-point field goal percentage. At the end of this season, she was named USCAA Honorable Mention All-American, as well as SLIAC Second Team All-Conference.  In 2016-17, Massner earned Third Team All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship Team honors for the SLIAC. She also earned USCAA Honorable Mention All-American honors in 2015-16.

As a junior, Massner has made her way into the IW women's basketball record books. She is currently tied for most three-pointers made in a game with 10, a feat she accomplished during her freshman season. She is also second all-time for three-point field goals made in her career with 175 total three-pointers through three seasons.

There were 17 men named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America®, which finished with a 3.84 GPA. Two men had 4.0s, and the first team recorded a 3.91 GPA.

The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America teams program.
