Wright Named Tigers Head Coach

Iowa Wesleyan University Director of Athletics, Derek Zander, has announced the hiring of Temaine Wright as the head women's basketball coach.

"It is truly a privilege to be a part of the Iowa Wesleyan family. I am very grateful to the Iowa Wesleyan community for this opportunity.  I'm very excited to start collaborating with the team and help this program build upon its storied history. It's an exciting time be a part of Iowa Wesleyan," Wright stated.

He continued, "Also, I am very grateful to the Millsaps Community, Head Coach Justin Leblanc and the Lady Majors for supporting me in moving on to Iowa Wesleyan."

Wright brings an impressive coaching resume to the Tigers.  In his previous stint with Millsaps, he was part of a team that won over twenty games and aided in a complete turnaround from a last-place team to a first-place team in one season.  Millsaps ended the year as Regular Season Champions and were Regionally ranked and received Top 25 Votes.

"We are thrilled to have Temaine join Tiger Athletics and lead the women's basketball program. Throughout the hiring process, the passion and overall experience that he has was evident. I am excited to get him on campus and look forward to seeing what the future holds for IW women's basketball," Zander stated.

Additionally, Wright brings head coaching experience to the Tigers after leading the women's basketball program at Schreiner University. During his time at Schreiner, Wright was named SCAC Coach of the Year and made three consecutive trips to the postseason.  His teams set the school record for postseason wins and made a trip to the conference championship final.

Throughout his coaching career, Wright has had the privilege of seeing multiple players earn First Team All-Conference recognition.

Wright was a standout player for the University of Texas at Dallas from 2007-2009.  He was inducted into the Hall of Honors in 2014 after a successful playing career. Wright was a co-captain and earned ASC Tournament MVP honors, along with being a member of a team that was ASC Regular Season and Tournament champions.

Temaine has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Texas at Dallas and received his Masters of Education from Schreiner University.
