Matters Nets Principia Record 44 Points

The Women's Basketball team opened their season with an exciting game vs. Rockford University.  Principia lost in double overtime ending the game with only four eligible players due to four players fouling out by the second overtime.  The team never gave up and finished the game leaving it all on the court.  They led Rockford at halftime by 10 points but Rockford stayed in the game and outplayed the Panthers in the 3rd quarter.  Both teams shot well from the charity line as Principia was 26 for 32 (81%) and Rockford was 31 for 41 (75%). After regulation time the game was tied 71-71.  In the first overtime, down by 2, Nikki Matters was fouled on her drive to the basket and made both free throws with only 2 seconds on the clock. Principia had a hard time in the second overtime period with 4 girls on the bench due to fouls.  But they never gave up and gave the Principia fans a fun game to watch.

They said it
"Coach Laura Williams and I couldn't be more proud of the effort and great play by the ladies.  They dove to the floor many times and it was great to have four players in double figures.  Whether in the game or on the bench, the players contributed to this exciting game. We thank the fans for their support!"
